One Day…

I will get my degree result, I was supposed to get it on the 9th but now its on the 26th thanks to the stupid lecturer strikes (the AUT lost their request for over 20% pay rise by the way and had to “settle” for the 13%). I can foresee more strikes next year if not the year after – it seems to go on a rota for them. I think last time they only shutup protesting because they thought some of the new extortionate top up fees would be used for them as soon as they came into effect.

Strangely I wasn’t nervous until I found out the date was put back, on the day it was supposed to be released I might add…

The cock up continues; cheers lecturers! Way to go about protesting; I still stick by my comment of “they aren’t very diplomatic for academics”.

The end of an era

Well things are closing up for me at Uni, I am moving out on wednesday so that I can go up and see Download festival with my mates and so I am moving out before the deadline given by the landlord for the first time.

It’s strange how it somehow doesn’t feel like such a big thing, some of my friends have suggested that its because I have sorted out a job and have nothing to worry about on that side of things but I think it is because last year was a lot of goodbyes and it felt like the end of an important era then. It was even more of an impact because I had missed out sharing the final year with a lot of people I would have loved to have spent more time with.

This year is different, despite signifying the end of my degree it doesn’t feel like a huge event. Maybe it is because having done a placement year I am about ready to leave, maybe it’s because last year felt like the end and this year was just a tail to the end.

I will definitely miss the many friends I have made this year in first years and also through people I have worked closely with during my degree; I have made many more new friends this year – including my band, and Canterbury hasn’t got rid of me just yet; Any Other Day will be returning towards the end of this year with hopefully more original tracks and more gigs so watch this space!

I have just bought a new car and am so proud of it – I pick it up tomorrow and its a Mazda 323 GXI. It is definitely an awesome first car and worth the money! Everything is falling into place really, I have a job to go to and that starts in July after our “graduation” (don’t get me started on the lecture strikes!), I’ve performed on stage at Keynestock in my final year, been to the last ball, had the after exam parties (not sure when they will end hehe)… I can’t really ask for more!

Keynestock 2006 Rocked!!!

Well Keynestock was awesome, it was a great atmosphere despite the bitter build up that had resulted from a few “unnamed” people on thestudentbar and lots of alcohol was consumed by all!

I stupidly went to the Venue the night before with the rare aim of staying relatively sober but did that happen? Hell no… I think what ruined me was the fact that I had a couple of slices of pizza and then crashed out – the pizza remained in my stomach until the morning. I felt so sick and rubbish that I wanted to be sick just to get rid of that feeling, it was made worse because I was nervous that I was going to feel sick on stage!

Despite that, as soon as we got on stage all of the nerves went and my stomach stopped punishing me – that might have had something to do with taking the hair of the dog but who knows!

Our set went pretty darn well aside from the odd mistake that (mostly) only ourselves noticed and the croud seemed to enjoy our set especially Mr Brightside that we ended on (see video below). Going on what people had come up to me and told me, their favorite track was our cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “Hear You Me”, which made me feel especially proud as that was the song I was singing the main part for so thanks you guys!

Unfortunately the band that were judging, The Gourami, were cut off half way through their set due to a fire alarm. I was really enjoying their set and by that point I had managed to get pretty drunk so was bouncing around like a twat, so much so that I clashed head with nose with poor Sam (sorry!!!). While everyone was outside for the fire alarm the results were announced as follows:

  1. Makeshift Minstrels
  2. Lucy Kitt
  3. (Joint) Gabi and the Whoremoans, Dr Dark

Once that was announced I went to the venue and got even more drunk with what was left of my band (don’t think Rich made it lol)

Here’s a mugshot of a moody band pose from before our set:

Any Other Day

There are lots more photos from the day in my gallery here thanks to John using my camera while we were on stage and also James May who was one of the photographers for the day.

Thanks to all that made the day happen at the JCC and everyone else that was involved, also thanks to everyone that turned up to make it a great event both for us and the rest of the bands! Its always an awesome event each year!

The count-down

I am now 4/6ths through my exams meaning that there are just 4 hours between me and the end of my degree!!! It feels so good to be able to say that but I can only imagine what I will feel like at the end on May the 19th! At that point all but a viva will be over and done with!

It’s going to be so weird to be finished but so ecstatic too! Hopefully my band has got into the uni festival keynestock on the following day so it should be an awesome end to an awesome 4 years!

Don’t expect any updates here on that day unless I am reeeeeeallly pissed haha. Good luck to all 😀
